Not Satisfied with JEE Main Score? Here are Other Exams You Can Take

The quote goes perfectly with every competitive exam aspirant. Preparing for an entrance for months and days, a student is obvious to think that he/she will nail it. But what if the opposite happens? Yes, by this we mean that what if you score less than your expectations or don’t clear it.

NTA released the JEE (Main) scorecard a few days back and again the story is same on both the sides, i.e. some have cleared it with amazing scores, and some are still not satisfied with their performance in the competitive exam.

Following the same, let us tell you that many even after getting 90 and above percentile are unable to make it to the top IIT’s, NIT and other eminent institutes due to cut-throat competition. So, there’s nothing to worry about! We have curated some pointers and alternate exams WBJEE, VITEEE, BITSAT to name a few, which you can go for as a plan B.

BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test)

Birla Institute is amongst one of the top tier colleges for engineering. This particular entrance test is conducted by BITS for admission into engineering courses at their Goa, Pune and Hyderabad campuses. Though a little easier than JEE, the catch here is to solve 150 questions in 180 minutes. The basic guidelines for the exam are as follows:

• It consists of four parts- Physics, Chemistry, English and Logical reasoning and Mathematics/Biology.
• +3 for every correct answer is awarded, and -1 is for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions are awarded zero.

VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam)

Conducting a computer-based objective entrance exam, VIT is an eminent institute for all the engineering aspirants. This state university-level exam is quite less difficult as compared to the previous ones. This institute can be a great option if JEE score is disappointing you in the back of your mind.

The basic guidelines for the exam are as follows:

• The exam has five sections in total- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English and Aptitude.
• A total of 125 questions are asked and the time allotted to the students to answer them is 150 minutes.
• The highlight of this exam is that there is no negative marking for any wrong answers.

MU OET/MET (Manipal University Online Entrance Test/Manipal Entrance Test)

Manipal University is ranked amongst the top 50 private universities in India. The location of the colleges under this university and the course curriculum makes it a desirable option for all the prospective students.

The basic guidelines for the entrance exam are as follows:

• It consists of four sections- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
• Total of 200 questions are there to attempt.
• The time duration varies between 1-2.5 hours, depending on the course chosen.
• The marking scheme is- +4 for every right answer and -1 for every wrong answer.

SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination)

SRM University conducts a joint entrance exam for all the students who wish to pursue engineering after their school. In sync with other exams, the SRMJEEE has also added two more sections to this entrance test. The basic guidelines for the exam are as follows:

• The five sections included in the exam are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English and Aptitude.
• It has 125 questions which are to be done in 150 minutes.
• 1 mark each is allotted for every correct answer.

OJEE (Odisha Joint Entrance Exam)

This exam is being conducted to get admission in first-year undergraduate, graduate and lateral entry programs. The exam is conducted for courses- B.Pharma, Lateral entry to B.tech, LE Pharma and LE Bsc/+3Sc. The examination pattern and courses vary from course to course.

• The time duration fluctuates between 1 to 2 hours.
• A number of questions asked are either 60 or 120, depending on the course of the student.

UPSEE

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University conducts this particular entrance exam. The pattern has remained the same from the past few years and is still the same for this year as well. The basic guidelines for the exam are as follows:

• Mode of exam will depend on the candidate, whether online or offline.
• The sections included are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
• Total of 50 questions from each section are asked.
• The exam duration is 180 minutes.
• Marking scheme- +4 for the right answer and no negative marking is done.

• Appearing for the second attempt of JEE. This time you are well aware of the pattern and level of the exam, so chances are high to clear it this time.
• The post-graduate entrance exam is also another way to remain in the field of Science. This will help you to get a better and in-depth knowledge of the subject.
• A student can also choose to study abroad if he/she is well-off to bear the expenses. Some students aim only for abroad, so this helps them to be relieved from all this mental stress.
• Last but surely not least is to drop a year. If being an engineer is your dream, you can invest one more year in preparing for the exam. But, keep in mind to always have a second option if you again fall back to square one.
